Please note:
The Parish Council has no power to deal with issues between neighbours. However an informal pleasant approach by yourself to the person responsible, could resolve the matter without involving the need for a formal complaint. It may also be more effective and least damaging in the long-term.
Sussex Police has launched a new rural crime team, whose overall aim is to crack down on unlawful behaviour in isolated communities. Phone 101 or 999 in an emergency.
Please contact OPERATION CRACKDOWN for anti-social driving (i.e. speeding, careless and aggressive driving and driving whilst on a mobile phone) and abandoned vehicles.

HIGHWAYS
If you wish to report a pothole or any road or pathway problem (including flooding, overgrown vegetation and fly-tipping) then you will need to do so to WEST SUSSEX COUNTY COUNCIL (WSCC) as they are responsible for all highways and street issues across the County.

Please note: If you are reporting an emergency, such as trees which have fallen down or drain/inspection covers that are missing, either during office hours or which will require an out of hours response, then please phone 01243 642105. All reports received online or submitted to the email addresses are not monitored over the weekend or on bank holidays.

Riparian ownership – your responsibilities
If you have a watercourse, ditch, stream, river or culvert on or next to your land you are known as a ‘riparian owner’. Riparian owners are responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of watercourses on their land to ensure that they are not a flood risk to other people or property.
Well maintained watercourses can significantly benefit the local community by reducing flood risk and creating habitats for wildlife.
The riparian responsibilities for landowners under law are to:
- ensure the flow of water is not obstructed or polluted
- maintain the bottom and sides of the watercourse (including managing any trees and vegetation growing on the banks)
- remove any obstructions, such as rubbish, fallen branches or garden waste
- maintain any structures (such as trash screens, culverts, weirs and mill gates) on it.
BONFIRES

If you are experiencing issues with smoke from a bonfire, you can report to the Environmental Protection Team. When reporting an issue please provide as much information as possible, such as an address, the time of reported burning, an indication of the items being burnt and the duration and frequency of burning.

NEW DOG PROTOCOLS

- Dog Fouling Enforcement Officers enforce Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs) that cover fouling and nuisance dog behaviour, dog exclusion areas. They also deal with litter enforcement. To report email environmentalprotect@chichester.gov.uk
- Chichester District Council will issue Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) to enforce the Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) – Dog Control 2020 as prescribed by the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014. Maximum fines £1,000 or a fixed penalty of £100
- Dog attacks or aggression on dogs/ other animals. This may be an offence, and is dealt with by the Police or CDC. Phone 101 or email CDC Environmental Protection team environmentalprotect@chichester.gov.uk
- Dog attacks or aggression on people. This may be an offence and is dealt with by the Police. Phone 101.
- Stray Dogs [Lost]: The reception point is open between 8am and 9pm, 7 days a week to receive dogs. Please ring 01243 576134 to make an appointment.
- Stray Dogs [Found]: Dogs should be identifiable to their owner by a microchip and by wearing a collar with the owner’s details attached. Social Media such as Facebook can help re-unite dogs with owners locally without involving the council. Council’s switchboard number to report finding a stray – 01243 785166
